Fort Garry Hotel

Fort Garry Hotel

The Fort Garry Hotel was built by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway in 1912 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The hotel was designed by Ross and Macdonald, and was built in the style and to the standards of the Park Plaza Hotel in New York City.

The GTP was merged into the Canadian National Railways (CNR) in 1920. In 1979, CN Hotels sold the property to a holding company controlled by the Perrin family of Winnipeg, headed by J. D. (Jack) Perrin, Jr. as President. In 1980, Jack Perrin unveiled the plaque presented by the National Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, recognizing the architectural and historic significance of the building.

In 1988 the hotel was purchased by a company (Sandpiper) controlled by Richard Bel of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The hotel is currently operated and owned by Richard Bel and Ida Albo.
