Stoke, New Zealand

Stoke is one of the suburbs of Nelson, New Zealand. It lies between Richmond and Tahunanui. Stoke has a population of around 7000.

Main attractions

Main attractions include:
* A sports ground known as Saxton's Field, which features softball, cricket, soccer and hockey fields and also includes a court for netball and basketball. There is also an archery programme.

The pride of Stoke is the Stoke-Nayland cricket club, in the 2007/2008 season they were first equal in the local one day competition and also scored a huge 634 against Waimea Toi Toi United in the two day competition final.

The team is coached by Andrew Cavill, Captained by Ben Homan and includes Former Black Caps, Central Districts and Wellington batsman Mark Douglas. Other players include former Nelson captain Paul Capstick, Jacob Beleski (who made 125 in the two day final), NZ u19 squad member Peter Younghusband, all have played at Senior Representative level for Nelson as have Duane Valentine, Nathan Todd, Brendan Hodgson, Alex Coles and Darius Skeaping.
