Garrucha is a municipality of Almería province, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. Garrucha is a seaport of south-eastern Spain on the Mediterranean Sea and the right bank of the river Antas. As of 1998, the town had a population of 5000. The harbor of Garrucha, which is defended by an ancient castle, affords shelter to large ships, and is the natural outlet for the commerce of a thriving agricultural and mining district. Garrucha has a considerable trade in lead, silver, copper, iron, esparto grass and fruit. Besides sea-going ships, many small coasters enter in ballast, and clear with valuable cargoes.

Garrucha"s local football team P.D. Garrucha (Pena Deportivo Garrucha) play in the regional preferente of Almeria ,a provincial league within the province of Almeria.The club currently play at "campo vista alegre" a small ground at the edge of the town.The team is planning to move into a new municipal ground for the town in the near future at Las Palms a recreational centre at the edge of the town.The town also has many other sporting facilities in the area including Harbour side basketball and football courts with also beachball courts on the towns beaches.Also other venues for sport are also being planned like a new swimming centre and also a new gymnasium also located at Las Palms recreational centre.

Tourism

Year round the town is flourished with tourist from Spain and also the continent.There are many seafront bars and restaurants serving locally produced goods like fish and the produce from farms in the surrounding area. The town also has a prominent night life in and around the many city streets but mostly at the towns prominade.
