du Maurier is a Canadian-centric brand of cigarettes, produced by Imperial Tobacco Canada, a subsidiary of British American Tobacco. The brand is named after Sir Gerald du Maurier, a British actor and manager. The brand is also produced under license by the West Indian Tobacco Company in Trinidad and Tobago.

Varieties

The cigarettes are available at Regular, Distinct (Light), Premiere (Extra-Light), Prestige (Ultra Light) and "Edition" (even lighter) nicotine/tar dosages. The packaging is red with the brand name and logo on the front and back of the package. Du Maurier also markets "Special" (baby-blue pack), "Avanti" and "Avanti Light" (slim, dark red pack) cigarettes. October 2006 saw a change in the Light du Maurier line. A new cigarette titled "Smooth Taste" which utilizes an "AC", or Advanced Charcoal filter, was released in a limited distribution for only the Greater Toronto Area. The product is the first of any du Maurier cigarette to make use of charcoal filter-tip technology. It may also be worth mentioning that the filter is not the traditional orange-"cork"-colour, but instead is white. The new Smooth Taste product is only available in packs of 25 King Size cigarettes.

du Marier cigarettes are available in regular Canadian (70 mm), king size (84 mm) and lengthy (100 mm) cigarette lengths. All styles of cigarette contain an equal quantity of tobacco. Regular size have 3-4 millimeters smaller filter to compensate for the short size. Regular cigarettes are popular in Canada; the nicotine hit appears to be more intense.

Sponsorships

du Maurier was formerly the sponsor of the "du Maurier Centre for the Arts", a theatre in Hamilton, Ontario. however, due to federal legislation banning tobacco advertising, du Maurier was discontinued as the naming donor for the facility. The theatre is now sponsored by Dofasco, and is currently named "Dofasco Centre for the Arts".

It also was the sponsor of the Du Maurier Golf Championship and the Du Maurier Jazz Festival in Montreal.
