"Beach Spikers" (or "Beach Spikers Virtua Beach Volleyball") is an arcade-style beach volleyball game for Nintendo GameCube (and originally for arcade machines). The game was published by Sega and developed in-house by Sega-AM2.

Gameplay

The controls are very simple and easy to get used to allowing the player to concentrate on strategy and ways to beat opponents, rather than worrying about how to move get the character to do what they want.Beach Spikers closely follows the format of Sega's other "Virtua" sports title, in that the player can unlock various hidden stages and costumes through success in the various play modes.

Arcade Mode

This is the simple arcade style tournament mode, which consists of an 8-team tournament. This can be played in either Team Play or Match Play mode and in Original or Arcade style.

World Tour Mode

This is the most in-depth mode in the game - it allows you to create your own team (in terms of player names, looks and uniforms) and lead them through the world tour mode. Success on the tour is rewarded by attribute points which you can add to your partner's different abilities, eventually allowing you to have a top-rated team. This created team can also be used in the other play modes, such as arcade mode.

World Tour Stages

There are eight stages on the World Tour:
*Pringles Stage
*Mikasa Stage
*Holiday Inn Stage
*Coca-Cola Stage
*Swatch Stage
*Nissan Stage
*Nintendo Stage
*Sega Stage

Teams

The teams included in Beach Spikers are as follows:

*United States: Lisa Mayer & Thelma Garnett
*Brazil: Veronyca Marques & Akasha Costa
*Australia: Mira Joyce & Nicole Fraser
*Spain: Gloria Sanchez & Elena Garcia
*Japan: Naomi Wakui & Hikaru Sunaga
*Italy: Irene Fano & Loretta Gilardi
*France: Carine Lafont & Sophie Rouch
*Cuba: Debra Gomez & Petra Fleta
*Canada: Jullia Quilico & Luca Olvis
*Mexico: Angela Sandi & Jessica Salinas
*Thailand: Pinjai Tankui & Ratee Savana
*Netherlands: Nel Feilke & Manon Renesse
*China: Xinhua Lee & Ling Cui
*Germany: Anita Erhart & Hilda Wolff
*England: Mary Clare & Susan Evans
*Jamaica: Lynda Howell & Irie Coxe

There are also 5 hidden teams: Black, Silver, Gold Dural, France 2 and United States 2 Teams (Dural is a character from the Virtua Fighter series of games)(Jean Descroix and Alex Descroix and their French and American friends are in these teams). These teams can be saved as a custom team after the player completes the World Tour mode (with certain conditions).

imilars

Acclaim made a very similar game for PlayStation 2 called "Summer Heat Beach Volleyball". For Xbox, Tecmo/Team Ninja made a spin-off from the "Dead or Alive" series called "Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball" and a sequel, "Dead or Alive Xtreme 2", for Xbox 360.
