Adam Art Gallery, Wellington

Adam Art Gallery, Wellington

The Adam Art Gallery is an art gallery of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. It was established in 1997 by the benefaction of Denis and Verna Adam and the University Foundation.

The building housing the gallery was designed by Ian Athfield, who built on top of an existing "Culliford stair". It has an unusual design, being tall and comparatively narrow, a result of the hillside location. This means that there are many different gallery spaces, linked with open space. It is also home to a very large painting by New Zealand's most well known painter, Colin McCahon.
