Tyrell Sutton

Tyrell DelShawn Sutton is an American college football running back for the Northwestern Wildcats football team.

Personal Information

Sutton was born on December 19, 1986 in Akron, Ohio to Connie and Anthony Sutton, Sr. Has two brothers, Tony and Marcel. Brother Tony was a record-setting running back at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio, and went on to star at Division III College of Wooster, and the Hula Bowl Maui All-Star Game in Hawaii in January, 2005.

High School Career

At Archbishop Hoban High School Sutton set numerous school records and was a 4-year varsity starter. He left high school with 9,426 career rushing yards, setting the new Ohio state rushing record.

College career

At 5-9 and 190 pounds, Sutton has emerged as one of the top backs in the nation. Many thought he was too small to play college football, being passed up by big name schools such as Ohio State and the University of Notre Dame.

Freshman Year

In the 2005 season, he finished with 1,515 yards on 250 carries and scoring 16 touchdowns. Tyrell also received the Big 10's Freshman of the Year Award.

ophomore Year

In 2006, Sutton finished with 1000 rushing yards on 189 carries and 261 receiving yards on 40 receptions. He had 10 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns. He had five games with over 100 yards. Sutton's season high for rushing yards came against Michigan State when he rushed for 172 yards on 21 carries.

Junior Year

Before the 2007 season, Sutton was one of 64 players in college football to be put on the Maxwell Award watch list. He sadly suffered an injury during the opening game and has missed 7 games.
