BBC Big Screen

BBC Big Screen

The Public Space Broadcasting project is a project involving the BBC, technology providers, and local councils to install continually broadcasting, 25m LED screens with sound systems in prominent locations in city centres. The premise on which the screens are operated is as a platform for all, to provide local information, and to allow film-makers and other visual artists a platform on which to display their work. The screens are run by the BBC in accordance with its editorial guidelines.

The 'screens' show BBC programming as well as screenings of locally made films, event information and sports coverage. Events that have been broadcast include the Live8 concert in 2006.

Interactivity has become a key feature of the package, using technology to enable interaction with audiences.

Locations

As of 06 August 2008, there are screens in the following towns/cities: Cardiff, Hull, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Rotherham, Bradford, Derby, Swindon, Swansea and Middlesbrough. There is also a touring screen that travels around the country.
