Goover Howthe Ratings

The Goover Howthe Ratings is a system, which involves an interview process, to establish the trade value of a vehicle in the automobile industry. It is dependent on vehicle condition. The scale ranges from "GHR 1" ("Showroom" quality) to "GHR 5" (Damaged or Very Poor Condition).

The five step GHR scale is applied to the following areas for appraisal:Glass, Body, Tires, Upholstery, Engine, Transmission, Rear End and Front End.Each area being appraised may also be conditioned by adding informative comments which can effect the appraisal process.

The Goover Howthe Ratings are typically used when "Blind Bidding" on a customer's vehicle. Many auto buyers, believing they obtain better trade values by not bringing their trade with them to the buying process, are now confronted with this system. While the GHR is never binding, it can provide for dealerships a very good estimate of the condition of the actual vehicle. Actual value of the vehicle is established after an actual, on site appraisal.

Other steps in the GHR are as follows:
*GHR 2 indicates "Near Showroom" quality,
*GHR 3 indicates "Some Minor Scratches and Flaws (Normal Wear & Tear)",
*GHR 4 "Minor & Major Flaws & Problems"

A perfect Total Goover Howthe Rating (TGHR) of 8 indicates the unseen trade vehicle is of complete showroom condition. Likewise, a TGHR of 40 indicates the trade is headed for the crusher.

Credit for naming this system is held by Texas automotive mid-manager Jeff Yates.
