Club Orange

Club Orange is a very popular Irish soft drink produced in Ireland by Britvic and previously by Cantrell & Cochrane (C&C) which is bottled in plants in Dublin and Belfast.

The ingredients are carbonated water, sugar, orange juice, citric acid, the preservative (sodium benzoate), the colours beta carotene and apocarotenal, and vitamin C (ascorbic acid). It is recognisable by the orange bits that remain in the glass after being consumed.

In addition, C&C also produce Club Lemon, Pomegranate & Cranberry, Rock Shandy (a mixture of the orange and lemon flavours) Club Apple, Club Berry, Club Strawberry and Cherry, soft drinks.

The slogan of Club is "the bits inside make it come alive" although it is rarely seen on Club bottles and commercials. It is so popular a drink with Irish people that it is one of the most sought after products by Irish expatriatesFact|date=November 2007

History

Club Orange was the very first orange fruit juice to come on the market. It was invented by Oliver Grace in 1901, but has been refined since to its present state. The name Club Orange comes from the Co. Kildare Gentlemans Club, who commissioned C&C to make an orange flavoured drink, but was shortened to club. In 1950, Club Lemon was introduced as a sister product. In 1960 Club Rock Shandy was born. Mr. Frank Murphy, a former managing director of C&C had the idea of mixing Club orange and Club Lemon together (shandy). In 2004 C&C introduced Club Lemon again, only for a second time, but this time the bits were left in. Over the years many different types of Club drinks have been created, such as Club Orange and Cranberry, Club Berry, Club Apple, ,etc. In 2006 Club Pomegranate and Cranberry was introduced. It became very popular and is now a permanent product.
