* 9.0 cl (6 parts) Orange juice
* 1.5 cl (1 part) Grenadine syrup
prep = Pour the tequila and orange juice into glass over ice. Add the grenadine, which will sink to the bottom. Do not stir. Garnish and serve.

categories = noThe Tequila Sunrise is a cocktail made in two different ways, the original (tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice and soda water) and the more popular concoction (tequila, orange juice, and grenadine syrup). Originally served at the Arizona Biltmore, the cocktail is named for the way it looks after it has been poured into a glass. The denser ingredients (cassis or grenadine) settle, creating variations in color that mimics a sunrise.

Popular culture

The drink's name was popularized in the 1973 Eagles single “Tequila Sunrise” and in the 1988 Mel Gibson/Michelle Pfeiffer film also titled "Tequila Sunrise".Hip hop group Cypress Hill released a single entitled "Tequila Sunrise." It is also the finishing move for the wrestler Konnan from WCW.

Preparation and serving

The Tequila Sunrise is considered a long drink and is usually served in a highball glass. The International Bartender Association has designated this cocktail as an IBA Official Cocktail.

Variations

* Tequila Sunset - substitute blackberry brandy in lieu of grenadine
* Caribbean Sunrise - substitute rum for tequila
* Vodka Sunrise - substitute vodka in lieu of tequila
* Astronaut Sunrise - substitute Tang in lieu of orange juice (Normally associated with camping trips and other outdoor activities where orange juice is not readily available.)
* Diet Version - substitute cranberry juice in lieu of grenadine
