History

Manor College was founded in 1947 by the Byzantine Ukrainian Sisters of Saint Basil the Great. It is located in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. In 1959, Manor College was chartered and incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The college was approved by the State Council of Education Department of Instruction on June 17, 1964. The legal governing body of Manor College is the Board of Trustees, which is composed of twenty-one members, including lay men and women from the business and professional communities and religious Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great.

Heritage

Manor College is related to the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Manor's objective to foster an awareness and appreciation of the Ukrainian heritage and culture is accomplished through its on-campus Ukrainian Heritage Studies Center which was established in 1977. The UHSC encompasses four major areas: Academic Studies, a Ukrainian Library, a museum collection of Ukrainian traditional arts and an Archives Division. Many Ukrainian immigrants looking for higher education in America attend Manor College as a method of easing their transition into American culture. Ukrainian immigrants comprise approximately fifteen percent of the student population.

Catholic education

Respect for the individual and service to the community are a reflection of Manor College's Catholic, Basilian and Ukrainian Heritage. Manor College offers a transformative educational experience where students flourish academically and socially. In this supportive environment, Manor College students are mentored and taught by faculty focused on their academic, spiritual, moral, and social growth. Manor College provides its students with an education that is based upon the Judeo-Christian tradition. Manor's mission statement believes that the ideals and values of this tradition are an integral part of human existence and give purpose and meaning to education.

Academic Programs

Manor College prepares its students, through the first two years of college, with the choice to transfer to a 4-year institution or become gainfully employed through its many vocationally oriented programs such as paralegal, dental hygiene, veterinary technology, and early child care. Students seeking exceptional preparation in career fields are immersed in classroom and laboratory experiences that encourage participation and hands-on learning, leading to a distinctive understanding of the theoretical and practical elements of their respective career field. Manor College excels at providing students exceptional academic programming, leading to a readiness for transfer to and completion of bachelor degrees at four-year institutions. This experience is distinguished by small, nurturing classroom environments that encourage student participation and expression.

Sports

The intercollegiate program at Manor College offers a variety of competitive programs for both men and women including basketball, soccer, and volleyball. The teams are known as the "Blue Jays". The Manor College Athletic teams compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association's 19th Region.
