Crown Point International Airport Airport codes|TAB|TTCP is an international airport located on the island of Tobago. It is located at the southwesternmost part of the island, near the town of Canaan, and 11 km from the capital, Scarborough. It is one of two international airports serving the twin isle republic. The other, larger and more connected, is located on the island of Trinidad, Piarco International Airport.

Overview

Crown Point was opened in 1940 and is a small, informal airport. Tourism is the main employment sector on Tobago, and Crown Point flights therefore carry many tourists in addition to the inter-island traffic.

The airport is home to a single bank and one ATM facility, operated by the Republic Bank, along with a series of shops and cafes, such as the Rituals Coffee House. The Crown Point Beach Hotel is situated within walking distance of the airport, offering conference facilities for business travellers and wireless access to the World Wide Web is also available.

An hourly bus service operates from outside the airport, which travels to a number of destinations on the island. These include Plymouth, next to Great Couland Bay, and Scarborough, which lies alongside Rockly Bay and Minister Bay. Further afield from Crown Point International Airport (TAB) and on the eastern side of Tobago and past the Tobago Forest Reserve are the villages of Charlotteville, Roxborough and Speyside.

Expansion

The Crown Point International Airport will also be modified and expanded starting February 2004 to facilitate the increase in passenger traffic to the island. The project is a part of Vision 2020. The modifications will incorporate the serene tropical ambience of the island doubling its size with first class facilities and state of the art navigational aides. The project also includes:

*Construction of a new air traffic control tower
*Taxiway repairs
*An airport landside transit mall
*Upgrade of the electrical sub station south terminal
*The procurement of air navigation equipment and modernization of the air traffic control facility.

These works will ensure that Trinidad and Tobago maintains United States Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) Category 1 (highest) status.

The government of Trinidad and Tobago is working to increase tourism on the island of Tobago, so they are increasing air traffic at Crown Point International Airport.
