Terebellum (astronomy)

The Terebellum is a quadrilateral of stars in the constellation Sagittarius. It is formed of four 4th magnitude stars, all within two degrees of each other, but not gravitationally bound, being at different distances from Earth.

Omega Sagittarii is a spectral type G5 giant with an apparent magnitude of +4.74. At 77.6 light years from Earth, it is the nearest of the four stars. ω Sagittarii is the northeast corner of the Terebellum.

59 Sagittarii, also known by its Bayer designation b¹ Sagittarii, has an apparent magnitude of +4.54. It is a spectral type K3 giant at a distance of about 1200 light years from Earth, making it the furthest of the four stars. 59 Sagittarii is the southeast corner of the Terebellum.

60 Sagittarii, or A Sagittarii, is a spectral type G8 bright giant, and the dimmest of the Terebellum, with an apparent magnitude of +4.84. It is 340 light years from Earth. 60 Sagittarii is the northwest corner of the Terebellum.

62 Sagittarii, or c Sagittarii, is a spectral type M4 red giant, is the brightest star in the Terebellum, with a mean apparent magnitude of +4.43. It is classified as an irregular variable and it's magnitude varies between +4.37 and +4.52. It is 448 light years from Earth. 62 Sagittarii is the southwest corner of the Terebellum, and is also the farthest from the centre of the group, being 1.72° from 60 Sagittarii and 1.37° from 59 Sagittarii.
