Arrest

Aug 3, 2007Despite being announced by Arena Box promotions as being signed and on their way to join their former team mates who defected in January to fight professionally in Germany, Rigondeaux and Lara were found/arrested at a hotel in Cabo Frio in Brazil, and are set to be deported back to Cuba by the end of the week.Although the deportation was due to Rigondeaux "willingly" going back to Cuba, he has been sacked from the national team and will from now on be allowed only to coach. There was speculation that the decision to return had been accelerated by pressures on the deserting boxer's families in Cuba.

He is currently seeking to speak with Cuba's new president Raul Castro to see if he can be allowed to box again.
