Immigrant's Festival

Immigrant's Festival ("Fiesta Nacional del Inmigrante") is celebrated in the city of Oberá, Misiones in Argentina.

It takes place during the first fortnight of September in the "Parque de las Naciones" (Nation's Park), an estate of approximately 10 hectares, where each collectivity has its house and during one week, social, cultural, sport and recreational activities are carried out in a festive climate of coexistence that renew to villagers and visitors around the tables tasting exquisite typical dishes.

During the days of the celebration artistic spectacles of international level follow one another, where also they act ballets of the collectivities.

Within the same estate, the "Commercial Fair" shows the commercial, farming and industrial might of the region, and the "Artisan Fair" with the most varied exhibition of works of great quality, made by Argentine and foreign craftsmen.

Without doubt, one of the most important days, is the election and coronation of the "National Queen of the Immigrant", where candidates participate representing in each collectivity, most of them granddaughters of immigrants who arrived to these land. That night is also chosen the "Virtual Queen of the Immigrant", in which people from over the world can vote for some of the candidates.

Between the collectivities they stand out the French, German, Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish, Swiss, Icelandic, Italian, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian, Paraguayan, Arab, Peruvian and Danish communities.

In year 1979 the first encounter of the different migratory currents in a colorful frame from integration was made. As of that date the editions followed one another of which at the present time it is the National Celebration of the Immigrant who is organised by the Federation of collectivity. Every year, with new attractive spectacles and, the celebration is visited by more than 120,000 people.

Edition 2005

In the year 2005, between the days 3rd and 15th of September will be carried the XXVI edition of the festival. New to this year edition is the Czech community with an assigned space at the "Parque de las Naciones".

In the part of spectacles, in addition to ballets typical of each one of the collectivities, they will appear in the scene greater "Norgus Jacob", artists of national level like Árbol, Turf, Airbag, Memphis la Blusera, Soledad Pastorutti and invited singers of neighbouring countries like Paraguay and Brazil.

On Thursday 8th, one of the following candidates from the different communities will be selected as the "Queen" of the festival:

* Arab: Chalup Dew
* Brazilian: Marcia Pizzutti
* Spanish: Natalia Fernandez
* French: Valeria Vignolles
* Italian: Julian Sansaloni
* Nordic: Fanni Sand
* Paraguayan: Lorene Britez
* Polish: Maria Sniechowski
* Russian: Noelia Bazila
* Swiss: Marcela Christen
* Ukrainian: Natalia Kornowski
* Japanese: Débora Karasawa
* Czech: Gabriela Iurinic

The candidate to occupy the throne of "The National Queen of the Immigrant" will be chosen by a jury selected by the Federation of the Collectivities. Also, the newspaper El Territorio, from Posadas organizes the election of [http://www.fiestadelinmigrante.com/Eleccion2005.asp Virtual Queen of the Immigrant] , in which everybody is invited to choose one of the candidates until 22:30 of the coronation day; the results will be given the same Thursday night, right after the election of the National Queen, 1° and 2° princess, miss typical cloth and miss friendship.
