The 1930 British Empire Games were the first of what later become known as the Commonwealth Games, and were held in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada from August 16-23 1930.

The events included Athletics, Boxing, Lawn Bowls, Rowing, Swimming, and Wrestling. All events were for men only.

In the double sculls event, only Canada was represented, so the organisers simply invited a couple of crews from the United States to provide some opposition.
