One False Note is the second book in The 39 Clues series. It is written by Gordan Korman,[1] and was published by Scholastic on December 2, 2008.[2] Following the events of The Maze of Bones, the protagonists Amy and Dan Cahill learn about Mozart and travel to Vienna, Austria to search for the second clue in the 39 Clues competition. One False Note entered the Children's Books New York Times Best Seller list at number one on December 21, 2008[3] and stayed on the list for children's chapter books for 12 weeks.[4]

Plot summary

Amy, Dan, and their pair, Nellie Gomez, found music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the end of The Maze of Bones, leading them to Vienna, Austria, to learn about him and find a related clue : Tungsten. They also found Japanese sword, so they went to Japan.

Page Number Code

In every book of the series, there is a code in the book. For this book the code is "Look to India". The Code uses a basic format, A=B. This means that every A in the code is turned into a B, every B is turned into a C, and so on and so forth. On the front inside cover of this book, one of the shards has letters on it. If you spell it out using musical notes and the letters it spells "Gideon." Gideon is the original ancestor of the Cahills

Critical Reception

Kidsreads.com reviewed the book, claiming that a reader may find inspiration in their own life and that "Gordon Korman...has done an amazing job."[5]
