Ole Petter Ottersen (born 17 March 1955) is a Norwegian professor of medicine.

His field is neuroscience, and he is a former director of the Centre for Molecular Biology and Neuroscience at the University of Oslo.[1] In 2009 he entered the race to become rector of the University of Oslo. The rector is elected by students and faculty, and his sole opponent was Trygve Wyller.[2] On 2 April 2009, it was clear that Ottersen won the rectorial election. His team also consists of Inga Bostad, Ragnhild Hennum and Doris Jorde.[3]

In 2005 he won the Lundbeck Foundation's research prize together with Jon Storm-Mathisen.[1] In 2008 he won the Anders Jahre Prize for Medicine.[4] He has been a member of the committee that awards the latter prize.[5] In 2001 he, together with Jon Storm-Mathisen and Per Brandtzæg, was found to be the most cited Norwegian scholar in international academic journals.[6]
