History

The Old Town Transit Center was built in the early 1990s, and the San Diego Trolley was extended here in 1996. In 1997 the Blue Line was extended into Mission Valley. In 2005 the Blue Line was extended once again eastward. This expansion became known as the Green Line and all Green Line trains begin and terminate at Old Town.

Service

The Center hosts passenger trains operating on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner rail route and the San Diego Coaster. Not all Amtrak trains in San Diego serve the Old Town Transit Center, since every train also serves the nearby San Diego Union Station and the Solana Beach station.

Of the 73 California stations served by Amtrak, the Old Town Transit Center was the 46th-busiest in FY2010, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 60 passengers daily.[2]

It is also a light rail station on the Blue, Green, and Special Event Service lines of the San Diego Trolley.

It is a bus station for San Diego Transit's routes 8, 9, 10, 28, 30, 35, 44, 88, 105, and 150. There is an underground tunnel linking the bus terminals with the trolley/train area.

Location

The station is located at the intersection of Rosecrans Street/Taylor Street and Pacific Highway, adjacent to Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Free parking is available in the Transit Center lots.
