Socialist Alternative (Netherlands)

Socialist Alternative (Netherlands)

Socialist Alternative (Dutch: Socialistisch Alternatief) is a Trotskyist organisation, member of the Committee for a Workers' International.

Socialist Alternative was founded as Inter in 1977. The name was shortly after changed to Voorwaarts ("Onwards") and from the early 1980's to 2010 it was called Offensief. Since September 2010 the group changed to the current name to "reflect the need for a socialist alternative that is needed in a time of capitalist crisis"[1].

It originally operated within the Dutch Labor Party (PvdA). Since 1998, Socialist Alternative (then still called Offensive) left the PvdA and switched to the Dutch Socialist Party (SP) where was operating in an entryist fashion. Its members were banned from the SP in February 2009, on the grounds of being "a party within a party".
