Over 50 Dutch bands and acts perform. The first edition of Noorderslag was held in 1986 and started out as a “battle” between Belgian and Dutch bands.[2] Later on the focus moved towards Dutch pop music. Since 2008 the festival is broadcasted live by the NOS (Dutch Broadcasting Foundation).[3] Since 2004 each edition of the festival was sold out well in advance. Noorderslag is organized by Noorderslag Foundation.[2]
During Noorderslag the annual Pop Award is presented to a person or artist for making the year’s most outstanding contribution to Dutch pop music.[4]
