VRH35Z Engine.

The VRH35 is 3.5L V8 piston engine from Nissan.It was developed newly by Yoshimasa Hayashi. V=V engine configuration R=Racing H=The eighth of the alphabet = Eight cylinders

History

1987

Nissan decided development with an engine for exclusive use of the race, and VEJ30 was developed newly by Yoshikazu Ishikawa. However, it was not able to play an active part in the race because it was based on old design thought.

1988

VEJ30 was improved by Yoshimasa Hayashi, and it was named VRH30. Its displacement volume was finally extended to 3.4L. He started development of VRH35 in parallel with VEJ30 improvement.

1989

VRH35 appeared as a new development engine.It is mounted on the R89C. (There is not relevance between VRH30 and VRH35.)[1]

1990

VRH35Z appeared as improvement type.It is mounted on the R90C. Z means ultimateness. (Z was words of the lasts of the alphabets, and the thing more than these put the meaning that there was not.)

1997

For its R390 GT1 race car, Nissan, with the help of Tom Walkinshaw Racing, fielded an updated version of the engine called the VRH35L. The revised engine produces around 641 hp (478 kW) at 6800 rpm.


1998

The engine was used in the Courage Compétition C51 [2] Nissan at the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans. Both cars retired.
