Nickelodeon Suites Resort (a.k.a. Nick Hotel), formerly known as Nickelodeon Family Suites, is a kid-centered hotel in Orlando, Florida, near the Universal Orlando Resort and one mile from Walt Disney World Resort.[1]

It is known for both its Nickelodeon themed rooms and its two waterparks. You can splash, slide, and dive in the Lagoon Pool & Oasis Pool with heated pools, 13 slides and flumes, interactive water towers, poolside games and activities, private cabanas and daily poolside shows with green slime.[2] It is also home to, among other amenities, a "mall" with a Nickelodeon-brand retail shop, a convenience store, an assortment of fast-food restaurants such as Subway, Uno Chicago Grill and A&W, and two buffets; a "4-D Theater" which showcases SpongeBob SquarePants 4-D, the aforementioned waterpark-style pools, and a relic from Nickelodeon history: the time capsule that was buried outside the former Nickelodeon Studios complex at nearby Universal Studios Florida.

History

Exterior view

The hotel originally opened in 1992, and was originally branded the "Holiday Inn Family Suites"; which featured both "KidSuites" (rooms decorated to match specific themes) as well as specially designed suites, such as movie-themed "CineSuites" and romance-themed "Sweetheart Suites" (which featured, among other amenities, heart-shaped whirlpools).

In 2004, Holiday Inn and Nickelodeon announced a partnership and renovation of the hotel, which would transform it into the Nickelodeon Family Suites by Holiday Inn.

From the hotel's reopening in 2005 to 2009, it carried the Holiday Inn flag and moniker. In 2009, it dropped the Holiday Inn flag and moniker and was renamed simply "Nickelodeon Family Suites". In November 2009 they changed the name and logo during Nickelodeon's changes. It was renamed to the now Nickelodeon Suites Resort.

Time Capsule

After the closing of Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios Florida, the Nickelodeon Time Capsule was moved to the hotel and reburied there on April 30, 2005, 1 month and 21 days after opening. It contains items that children in 1992 voted to put in there, which include a piece of the Berlin Wall, rollerblades, an MC Hammer CD, a world atlas, a history book, a Michael Jackson Dangerous CD, a Nicktoons t-shirt, a can of Nickelodeon Gak, a comic book, a Barbie doll, Hostess Twinkies, Reebok Pump sneakers, a skateboard, bubble gum, a phone book, a Nintendo Game Boy, a copy of the Book of Endangered Species, and a Home Alone VHS tape.
