Nick Shalosky

Nicholas Shalosky is an openly gay native South Carolinian who, as a college student, won a seat on the Charleston County School Board. He currently represents the 20th District, downtown Charleston.

Shalosky is the first openly gay elected official in South Carolina history.^[1] This distinction got him the honor of being named one of the nation's "Forty Under 40: Politics" by The Advocate.^[2]

Shalosky also has the distinction of being the youngest openly gay elected official in the United States.

Personal life

Shalosky graduated from the College of Charleston in 2010 with a degree in Political Science and Geography. He currently attends the Charleston School of Law.

Shalosky has spoken at Myrtle Beach Pride, South Carolina Pride and attended the National Equality March in 2009 in Washington, D.C.

Shalosky's parents are Tony and Vanessa Shalosky from Conway, SC.
