Career

Born in Reading, Berkshire, Bignall was a prolific scorer for the Reading Academy, which prompted Reading manager Steve Coppell to sign him on professional forms. Before experiencing first team action for Reading, he was loaned out to Northampton Town in late 2008, scoring his first senior goal against Leeds United. He was loaned out again in January 2009 to Cheltenham Town.

He scored his first Reading goals when he scored twice at home to Burton Albion in a first round League Cup tie on 11 August 2009, also making his senior debut.[2]

On 31 August 2009, he joined Stockport County on loan until January.[3] He made his debut against Crewe Alexandra in the Football League Trophy and scored. He scored his first league goal for Stockport in the 2–1 win over Leyton Orient on 20 September 2009.

On 8 October 2010, Bignall signed for Southampton on loan until 4 November.[4] He returned to Reading in November, before going on loan to Bournemouth on 12 November for a month.[5]

Arrest

On 6 October 2010, Bignall appeared in court after he was accused of assaulting a Windsor nightclubber.[6] All charges against Bignall were subsequently dropped without trial as the nightclub bouncer stated that Bignall had not been one of the men involved, proved by CCTV footage.
