Newsy URL http://www.newsy.com Slogan Multisource News Analysis Type of site Internet Properties Established in 2008, Social Network and Online Video, Comparative Journalism Available language(s) English Owner The Media Convergence Group Launched 2008 Current status Active Newsy is a multisource video news service that analyzes world news and produces 2-to 3-minute, streaming video clips.[1] Clips are available on both web, and mobile platforms. The purpose of Newsy.com is to compare how multiple news outlets from around the world (e.g. The New York Times, France 24, NDTV, Xinhua, Fox News Channel, The Guardian, and CNET.com) cover the day's events for people who want to stay up to date, but don't have the time to seek out multiple sources on their own.[2] Newsy.com's approach embodies a basic principle of comparative journalism: asking the same question to multiple sources and comparing their answers.[3] The site features a variety of sources across multiple media platforms, giving users access to news outlets they may not have encountered in the past.[4] Newsy.com's mobile applications have enjoyed widespread success. The New York Times reported how Newsy's iPad app changed the nature of journalism on the device.[5] The company is headquartered in Columbia, Missouri.
In July 2010, Newsy.com was recognized as one of the “2010 Hottest Companies in the Midwest” by Lead411.[6] A September 2010 Read Write Web article explains Newsy's next move will be to develop apps for Internet TV.[7]
Newsy won the 2011 Appy Award beating out CNN and Flipboard in the 'News' category.[8]
