History

Newlands Spring Primary School was founded in 1982. It has seen 4 Head Teachers; Mr. A Leek, Mr. J Roser, Mrs H Bridges and Mrs S. Edom-Baker. In 2008, some of the current year fours burried a box containing many things from the school and schoolchildren so that when the school becomes 50 years old they can dig it up and see what life was like. It is located in the gardening area.

Clubs

Newlands Spring Primary School is home to a wide variety of clubs, including the award winning choir club who sing anually in the Royal Albert Hall and various other places. The choir is now run by Mrs Edom-Baker herself aswell as Mrs F Hargreeves. Below is a list of the main clubs:

Uniform

Newlands Spring takes a pride in its uniform. It is one of the few primary schools in the area to wear a tie (the foundation class have no tie, years 1-5 have a striped blue and silver tie and year sixes have plain blue ties). It is nicknamed 'The Blue School' hence the blue house next to it, (once part of Newlands Spring) the uniform (there is a blue jumper alongside the tie) and the entrance hall, which is very blue. Students are also expected to wear a plain white shirt with a collar (foundation students may wear a polo shirt) and dark grey trousers aswell as black school shoes.

Tests

The SATs results from Newland Spring were the second best in Chelmsford, behind St. Cedd's private school. There were about 25 level 5s for Maths (the top level for the SATs, the average being a low level four). About 55 students took the test. Also, some children make it to one of the five main grammar schools accessible from the area, KEGS, Chelmsford County High School for Girls, Westcliff High School for Girls, Westcliff High School for Boys, Colchester Grammar School for Boys and Colchester Grammar School for Girls. In the academic year 2009-2010, one boy got into KEGS, (Declan Hickey) two girls got in to Chelmsford County High School for Girls, (Sobitha Ahillan and Chloe Fisk) one person got in to Westcliff high School for Boys, (Abishek Abhidar) one person got in to Westcliff High School for Girls, (Tomide Odwole) Nobody got into Colchester grammar school for boys and one girl (Caroline Taylor) got into Colchester Grammar for Girls.

Mrs Edom-Baker

Previously being Headmistress at Little Waltham Primary School, Susannah Edom-Baker became the top of Newlands Spring in 2008, replacing Mrs H Bridges. Before she came, the school was classed as 'Good' by OFSTED, but was upgraded to 'Outstanding' in her first year there. She annually conducts her school and around 20 others at the Royal Albert Hall to raise money for Barnardo's charity. She records the CD that goes along with it.
