David Raposa of Pitchfork Media awarded Nerve Up a 7.7 rating, praising the album's "wall-to-wall skittishness" and commenting that the artist shows "an astonishing ability to express her voice using the sounds of others". [4] NME reviewer John Doran noted that "the nakedness of the music suggests a confessional nature" while celebrating "the arrival of a fresh and invigorating voice" and awarding a 9 out of 10 rating.[3] Reviewing the album for Drowned in Sound, Simon Jay Catling described it as "a fairly promising debut" but remarked that "the constant signposts can be a bit repetitive".[2]
