National Fraud Intelligence Bureau

National Fraud Intelligence Bureau

The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau is a police unit in the United Kingdom set up in 2010 to combat fraud. The NFIB was created as part of the recommendations of the 2006 National Fraud Review, which also saw the formation of the National Fraud Authority.[1] The NFIB was developed and is overseen by the City of London Police as part of its role as a national lead on fraud, and is funded by the Home Office.[1]

Whether the NFIB takes any more notice of information passed to it than the Metropolitan Police Operation Archway or the FSA remains to be seen. Operation Archway noted calls but was unable to process them due to lack of manpower and funding generally. Some view it as a public relations exercise and certainly the NFIB search facility shows "no information" when asked about a number of well known frauds
