Namma Bengaluru Awards 2009

Namma Bengaluru Awards is an initiative by the Namma Bengaluru Foundation to thank ordinary citizens for their extraordinary contributions to the city of Bengaluru (Bangalore, Karnataka).


The Awards for the year 2009 was conferred by His Excellency the Governor of Karnataka, Shri H. R. Bharadwaj & Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri B. S. Yeddyurappa along with Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Jury of Namma Bengaluru Awards, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at Bengaluru Palace Grounds.

There was an overwhelming response to Namma Bengaluru Awards '09, held to honour those who make a difference to our city. Several dignitaries, Celebrities and Corporates from all over Bengaluru were present. The evening was a glittering event of music and dance. Artists like Nrithyarutya, Karthik Mani & Sai Babu and Swedish Carnatic singer Nikalas performed along with a sandalwood medley.

Namma Bengaluru Awards had received more than 4000 nominations from Bengaluru for the Awards '09, out of which 26 had been shortlisted and 14 nominees were awarded and declared Winners in the ceremony. Users online also had a unique opportunity to Guess the Final 14 winners of Namma Bengaluru Awards 2009 and stand a chance to win a prize worth Rs. 1 lakh, prior to the Awards Night.

About Namma Bengaluru Awards

The Namma Bengaluru Awards will bring to the limelight ordinary citizens for their extraordinary contributions.

Bengaluru, one of the most rapidly growing metropolis in India is also reputed to be the garden city, the pub city and the silicon valley of India. Today, Kempegowda's Bengaluru is not only known for the above titles but also for the millions of people that make the city what it is today.

There are numerous people in our city who are serving neighbourhoods and communities who are not well known. Namma Bengaluru Awards is a way of saying "Thank you" to all of these "real stars" of our city.

An initiative by Member of Parliament and Convener of ABIDe - Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Namma Bengaluru Awards is launched with the vision to inculcate a sense of optimism and interest in the minds of the common man and bring to the limelight ordinary citizens for their extraordinary contributions, recognize exemplary contributions made by individuals who have contributed to Bengaluru¿s developments, for those who have enriched the lives of common man, to the ordinary citizens for their extra ordinary contributions and to create Ambassadors of best practice who set standard for the rest to follow.

The Namma Bengaluru Awards will be annual awards held every year by the Namma Bengaluru Foundation. The Foundation is a Non Profit Trust and has IT 80G exemption.


AWARD CATEGORIES

Namma Bengaluru Awards for Public Officials and Agencies:

To recognize public officials and government agencies (Like MPs, MLAs, MLCs, Officers & Staff of Civic agencies like BDA, Bescom, BBMP etc)

Criteria of awards:

Responsiveness service to citizens

Efficiency in maintaining a public office

Creativity and Innovation

Thoroughness and attention to detail

Alertness in preventing errors and accidents

Cooperation among different agencies

Leadership

Heritage protection and conservation

Environment protection and sustainability


Namma Bengaluru Awards for Private Citizens and Institutions

Aimed at recognizing efforts of citizens and private institutions including NGOs, RWA, Companies, schools etc.

Criteria for awards:

Community service

Social responsibility

Volunteerism

Collaborating with city agencies

Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Heritage protection and Conservation

Environment protection and sustainability
