History

Izola city stadium

The club was founded in 1923 as Club Calcistico Giovanile Isola d'Istria, when the city of Isola was part of Italy. It was known between 1930-1946 as "Ampelea Isola d'Istria" and played in Serie C between 1937-1946. It was joined to Yugoslavian League as "MNK Izola" in 1946-47 season. In 1991-92 the club was, as Belvedur Izola, cofounder of the Slovenian competition, after it became independent from Yugoslavia. The club became third, and thus qualified for the UEFA Cup. Unfortunately, it met Benfica in the first round, which easily won the two matches. The next season gave poorer results: Belvedur became thirteenth. Before season 1994/95, the name was changed in NK Izola. In 1996 the club was relegated from top division and was refounded as MNK Izola.
