In addition, MTO publishes announcements of upcoming conferences and calls for papers, a list of job opportunities, abstracts of recently completed and in-progress dissertations, and summaries of recently published books."
MTO began in March 1993, making it a relatively early online journal. Its initial issues were designated as part of vol. 0. Vol. 1 began in January 1995. Its founding editor was Lee A. Rothfarb. It is presently edited by Matthew Shaftel.
