Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Baqa (20 April 1922 – 20 August 2005) was a researcher, critic, linguist, author, scholar of Urdu literature and linguistics, educator and religious and spiritual leader (Shaikh) belonging to the Naqshbandi order of Sufism.

Life and services

Baqa was born on Sha'aban 22, 1340 Hijra 20 April 1922 in Sironj, Madhya Pradesh, India.[citation needed] After getting the basic education in his home town, he went to Darul Uloom Deoband, where he studied Dars-e-Nizami.[citation needed] After his migration to Pakistan, he achieved his masters degree in Islamic Studies from Karachi University in 1962.[citation needed] In 1969, he received his Ph.D. in Islamic Studies.[citation needed] The topic of his thesis was "Usul al-fiqh aur Shāh Walī Allāh".[citation needed] He has spent his entire life in education and research.[citation needed]

5. Al-Mukhtasir fi Usul al-fiqh, This is a brief book on Hanbali Usul al-fiqh written by Ali bin Al-Abbas Al-Be'ali. Dr. Muhammad Mazhar Baqa researched and editied this book and it was re-published by Markaz Ahya Al-taras Al-islami, Umm Al-Qura University (1400 Hijra)

6. Al-mughni fi Usul al-fiqh, This is a reference book on Hanafi Usul al-fiqh by Umar Al-Khabbazi. Baqa researched and editied this book and it was re-published by Markaz Ahya Al-taras Al-islami, Umm Al-Qura University (1403 Hijra)

7. Bayan Al-Mukhtasir, This book of Shams Uddin Mehmood Al-Isfahani is the edited version of the book Mukhtasir Al-muntaha by Ibn Al-Hajib. Markaz Ahya Al-taras Al-islami, Umm Al-Qura University published this reference book after Baqa's research, in 3 parts.

8. Mukhtasir Al-Muntaha is published by Maktaba-e-Makkah, Makkah Al-mukarramah (1421 Hijra)

9. Sharah Al-Mughni, Umar Al-Khabbazi himself wrote a reference book about his book Mughni. Baqa researched this book in 2 parts. It is published by Maktaba-e-Makkah, Makkah Al-mukarramah (1421 Hijra)

10. Mu'ajim Al-usooliyeen, This history and biography of Usooliyeen was completed in 5 parts. The first 2 parts were published by Mahad Al-bahoos, Umm Al-Qura University in 1994. Other 3 parts were published by the name of A'alam Usul al-fiqh al-islami wa Musanfoohem.

11. Islam Ka Nizam-e-wirasat (according to Hanafi Fiqh). This book was given to Pir Muhammad Ibraheem Trust for publishing.

12. Speeches - Radio Pakistan, is a collection of speeches broadcast from Radio Pakistan. It was published as a booklet.

16. Kashkol-e-Mazhari, Baqa started collecting some brief and interesting material during his studies and research. This book is a collection of those different write-ups. Published by Educational Press, Pakistan Chok, Karachi in July 2001.

Khilafat

Hazrat Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Khan Sahib bestowed Khilafat to Mufti Muhammad Mazhar Baqa, to embrace Naqshbandi Mujadidiah Order of sufism.[clarification needed] He himself bestowed Khilafat to Hazrat Salman Thanvi Sahib and Hazrat Mahboob Ul Hasan Wasti Sahib
