Afonso was born in
Évoraon April 23 1509and during his life was made Cardinal of the Kingdom after occupying several religious positions throughout the country.
He died on
April 21 1540, in Lisbonand was buried in Lisbon Cathedralbefore he was moved to the Jerónimos Monastery.
