The Order of Omukama Chwa II Kabalega (also known as The Most Honourable Order of Duty and Inflexibility of Omukama Chwa II Kabalega and Saint Thomas More) is the third highest royal order of merit of the Kingdom of Bunyoro, [1] and is awarded solely by the Omukama of Bunyoro. The Order is one of thee Orders which were established/reestablished in 2010, as a part of a modernization process in the Kingdom.

The Order is awarded to persons who promote charity and humanity, help to relief from sickness, distress, suffering or danger. Also individueals are awarded who support the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, and in general act in accordance with the unofficial motto, For the King, For the People, For Justice.[2]

The Order does not have an official motto, but the unofficial motto is “Habwomukama, Habwabantu, Habowbwinganisa” (Latin: “Pro Rex, Pro Humanitas, Pro Iustitia”) (English: “For the King, For the People, For Justice”)

The Order consists of seven grades (post nominals):

  • Knight (KCK)
  • Officer (OCK)
  • Commander (CCK)
  • Grand Officer (GOCK)
  • Grand Cross (GCCK)
  • Grand Cross – Special Class (GCCK)
  • Grand Collar (GCCKC)

The class of Grand Collar is only available for reigning royalties, heads of state and the grand master.

The order may be inherited by the eldest children of the same sex as the original recipient.

The order is named after Omukama Chwa II Kabalega a former king of the Kingdom and a national hero[citation needed] of Uganda and Saint Thomas More who is a great symbol of duty and inflexibility against injustice.
