A parliamentary election took place in Moldova in 1940.

Results

The Moldavian deputies represented 56% of the total number of representatives, compared to a Moldavian population that made up 65% of all inhabitants of the republic.[1] The first session of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR was held on January 12, 1941.

All the deputies were members of Communist Party of Moldova.

Follow-up

The Constitution of 1941 was adopted at the first session of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR, on January 12, 1941. It was the first Constitution of Moldova, and was based on the principles and provisions of the 1936 Soviet Constitution.
