Metropolitan Police (Buenos Aires)

The Metropolitan Police is a police force being formed for the Autonomous City (or Federal District) of Buenos Aires. Currently security in the city is primarily the responsibility of the Argentine Federal Police. As of February 2011, it is composed of 1850 officers in about 10 neighbourhoods.

The force is planned by the government of the Autonomous City. The city government claims it wishes to create the new force on the model of the British London Metropolitan Police and the New York Police Department. The city government says the new force will use of high technology support and adopt a policy of zero tolerance.
