The Mercury Theatre

The Mercury Theatre is a theatre in Colchester, built in 1972. It originated with the Colchester Repertory Company, formed in 1937. After considerable campaigning and fundraising a theatre, designed by Norman Downie was constructed[1]. The theatre hosts the Mercury Theatre Company which was formed in 1998.

The theatre also contains The Digby Gallery, which showcases local art.[2]

Productions at the Mercury have included the work of Martin Clunes, Simon Gray, Toby Longworth, Ingrid Lacey, Michael Grandage, Mike Poulton, Michael Deacon, Colin McCormack, David Oakes, Donald Freed

Michael Grandage made his directoral debut at the Mercury with "The Last Yankee"[3]
