McLean Homes was a major British housebuilding business.

History

The Company was established by John McLean in 1934 with the objective of building houses for local authorities.[2] In 1953, trading as John McLean & Sons, the Company opened one of the first fully furnished show homes in the UK.[2] The Company had its own architects' department which 'twitched' the designs to match the latest market trends.[3]

It acquired Midland & General Developments, itself founded by Eric Pountain, in 1969.[4] McLean Homes was acquired by Tarmac in 1974, who expanded it under Pountain's leadership, and then sold it to George Wimpey in 1996.[2]
