History

Matsugishi Station was opened on 1 June 1897 as a station on the Sōbu Railway.[1] On 1 September 1907, the Sōbu Railway was nationalised, becoming part of the Japanese Government Railway (JGR). On March 11, 1933, the Narita Line was extended from Sasagawa to this station. After World War II, the JGR became the Japan National Railways (JNR). Scheduled freight operations were suspended from October 1, 1961. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japan National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987.
