Moravia , in theCzech Republic . It lies in theSouth Moravian Region . The population is 26,226 (2006 ). Hodonín was first mentioned in1046 . In1228 it became a town. In1850 Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk , the firstpresident of independentCzechoslovakia , was born here.In the vicinity of the town there is an oil field and a strata of
lignite , which was formerly transported to the town ofOtrokovice , a few kilometers from the city ofZlín , by a special water channel known as theBaťův kanál . It was built by the famous Czech entrepreneurTomáš Baťa and now operates as a tourist attraction.External links
