Marina Calzado Linage

Marina Calzado Linage (b. Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentina percussionist.

Marina is a marimba performer, born in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Qualifications

She studied percussion at the National Music Conservatory “Carlos López Buchardo” under the guidance of Néstor Astutti.

She specialized in marimba with Ángel Frette (Argentina) and Nancy Zeltsman (Boston, USA), in drums and accessories with Tristán Taboada, and in timpani with Arturo Vergara. She actively participated in the marimba courses given by Rebecca Kite (USA), William Moersch (USA), and Ney Rosauro (Brazil).

Due to her broad and comprehensive view, she participated in the seminars on the History of Music and Music Analysis with Professors María del Carmen Aguilar and Julio Palacios, in the theory-and-practice seminar on Baroque Music with Professor Mario Videla, in the seminar on Chamber Music with Professors José Bondar and Andrés Spiller, organized by the Antorchas Foundation.

She participated in the Courses on Percussion and Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Band Practice in the XII Music Office (Curitiba, Brazil). She took the I and II Orchestra Practice Courses at the Libertador San Martín Institute given by Mario Benzecry.

Teaching Experience

· She currently holds the Percussion Chair at the Conservatory of the City of Buenos Aires.

· She dictates the course on Chamber Music for Percussion at the “Carlos López Buchardo” Conservatory.

· She taught Percussion at the Provincial Conservatory Juan José Castro, at the Music School “J. P. Esnaola”, at the National Conservatory “Carlos López Buchardo”, and at the Provincial Conservatory of Morón.

· She also taught Percussion for children at the Colegium Musicum.

Scholarships and Distinctions

> PRESIDENCY OF THE ARGENTINE REPUBLIC:

· She was granted the Scholarship for Cultural Excellence of the Argentine Presidency.

> STATE OF SAO PAULO, BRAZIL:

· She was granted a Scholarship to participate in the 27th. Festival of Campos de Jordao – Advanced Training in Interpretation and Orchestra Practice under the guidance of Eduardo Gianesella.

· She participated in the 3rd. Latin American Percussion Meeting carried out in São Paulo, Brazil.

>ANTORCHAS FOUNDATION:

· She was granted the Scholarship for Advanced Training in Music Interpretation for marimba in this country with Ángel Frette.

· She was also granted the Support Scholarship for members of the Chamber Groups of the Colón Theater Academic Orchestra.


Concerts

> AS SOLOIST

· As a marimba soloist she has performed with the Colón Theater Academic Orchestra, the Libertador San Martín Juvenile Orchestra, and Buenos Aires Percussionists under the guidance of Mario Benzecry, Oscar Piluso, Andrés Tolcachir, Fabián Bermann, Roberto Luvini, and Duillo Dobrin, interpreting the concerts for Marimba and Orchestra of Ney Rosauro, Roque de Pedro , and Jorge Sarmientos. This year she premiered the concert for Marimba and Orchestra of Guillermo Zalcman together with the Colón Theater Academic Orchestra.

· She has given many concerts among which are “The Marimba Today” series at the Recoleta Cultural Center, the concert Marimba Played by Women at the San Telmo Scala, and other concerts in different concert halls such as the Buenos Aires University Law School, the San Martín Theater Hall, the Auditorium of the Brazilian Embassy, C.T.C., the Tudor Hall of the National Conservatory, and the Golden Hall of the Colón Theater.

> IN ORCHESTRAS

· As a percussionist, she participated in the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, the Colón Theater Standing Orchestra, the Libertador San Martín Juvenile Symphony Orchestra, the Colón Theater Academic Orchestra, and the Juvenile Franco-Argentine Orchestra, among others.

> CHAMBER MUSIC

· At present she is the concertino at the Buenos Aires Percussionists Ensamble.

· She was part of the Contemporary Buenos Aires Ensamble, the Percussion Group of the National Conservatory, the Percussion Group of the Libertador San Martín Orchestra, and the Soloists Ensamble of the National University Institute of Art (IUNA).

> RECORDINGS

· She participated in the CD recording of La marimba en la Argentina (The Marimba in Argentina), nominated for the ACE Awards 1997 and Por un camino de tierra (Along an Unpaved Road), both made by her professor Ángel Frette.

Marina's available recordings, as of 2003, are in Marimba de Buenos Aires, where Tango, and Classical Music melt together, including some olors of Milongas and Floklore, to make a beautiful CD.

She currently teaches percussion at the Conservatory "Astor Piazzolla" at Buenos Aires, where she directs and also leads the percussion ensemble of the conservatory (Ensambe de Percusion del Piazzolla)
