Coordinates: 53°01′19″N 1°18′25″W / 53.022°N 1.307°W Durban House Heritage Centre is the sister site of the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum in Eastwood, near Nottingham. It contains an exhibition on the social history of Eastwood during the time that the writer lived there. In addition there is an art gallery, a small restaurant, meeting rooms and civil wedding facilities.

The Exhibition
The exhibition puts D. H. Lawrence's life into the context of its time and place. It contains a recreation of a Victorian school room; a mock up mine (visitors are invited to crawl through); pictures and description of mining life in the area; a Purdy (mining) lamp; a Lady Chatterley area (with the original book that was used during the Penguin trial showing the underlined 'obscene' passages.
The Rainbow Gallery
The gallery forms an integral part of the exhibition. It houses changing art exhibitions, such as photography, painting and textile work.[1] During the annual D.H. Lawrence Festival there is usually an emphasis on Eastwood's history and the town's mining heritage. This year's exhibition was 'Eastwood - the Way we lived', photographs of Eastwood from the 1920s, put together by a miner and local historian.
Hatters Tea Shop
Recently refurbished replacing the previous bistro an elegant Tea shop selling fine loose leaf teas and fresh roast coffees. Delicious home baked cakes,cream teas, and quintessential English afternoon tea with dainty sandwiches served til 4pm. Also all day breakfasts served on Sundays. The name Hatters instantly suggests Alice in wonderland but is also taken from a quote in the first chapter of D.H Lawrence's famous novel Lady chatterley's lover "And the authorities felt ridiculous, and behaved in a rather ridiculous fashion, and it was all a mad hatter's tea-party for a while."
