Galway Airport Airport codes|GWY|EICM, or "Aerphort na Gaillimhe" in Irish, is located at Carnmore 9 km north of Galway City in Ireland and is managed by "Corrib Airport Limited". Since 1998 to 2004 Galway airport doubled its passenger numbers, carrying 230,106 passengers in 2004 and in November of 2007 it passed the 300,000 mark. It now handles well over 300,000 passengers each year, with over 22,000 air traffic movements annually. On the 8th of Oct 2007 Galway Airport welcomed its 2 millionth passenger. Galway Airport is Ireland's fastest growing airport with passenger numbers to increase by 400% this year from 1998.

In recent years there has been an increase in the volume of private charters, NetJets being one of the more notable frequent visitors. Fact|date=January 2008

From May 2008 Nex Aviation will operate jet services to Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Faro and Malaga, under the Aer Arann franchise with a BAe 146, 100 seater jet aircraft. All services will go via Waterford Airport.

Ground transportation

The airport is located 6 km by road from Galway city centre. There is very little public transport with a single daily bus serving the airport. Taxis are available outside the terminal building.

Government assistance

On 21 February 2007, the Irish Government announced that it was giving €6.3 million in capital grant money for Galway Airport. Fact|date=January 2008

General aviation

Galway Flying Club is located at the airport and operates extensively at the weekends. The club opererates Cessna 172 (EI-MCF and EI-NFW) and Cessna 152 (EI-BIB) aircraft, along with many privately owned aircraft. The club provides instruction and the use of its aircraft for Private Pilot Licenses and student pilots.

Executive Helicopters also provide helicopter training at the airport in their hangar.
