Doncaster Frenchgate Interchange is a transport interchange located in the Frenchgate Centre in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. Doncaster Frenchgate Interchange is home to 30 bus bays, and also connects the shopping centre with the town's railway station.

Contents

History

The interchange was designed by local transport executive South Yorkshire PTE (SYPTE)[1] and shopping centre owners Teesland. It had received planning permission by 2001, and was intended to open in 2004 at a cost of £70 million.[2]

Work on the Frenchgate interchange began in 2003. It opened in June 2006 and became the town's main transport hub, with SYPTE predicting that it would receive around 12 million passengers per year. The previous Doncaster North and Doncaster South bus stations, which dated from the 1960s and were located underneath multi-storey car parks, were closed.[1]

Bus

The Interchange is used by all bus companies that serve Doncaster. First South Yorkshire is the towns largest and central bus operator, with Stagecoach Yorkshire, Arriva Yorkshire, Wilfreda Beehive and Powells Bus Co. serving outer destinations.

Services to Robin Hood Airport in Finningley also operate from the Interchange, however as of September 2010 a dedicated direct Airport service no longer exists. Local bus services must be used, which may inconvenience many rail-air passengers, with indirect routes and longer journey times.

Bus Services

The Interchange contains 30 bus bays split between two concourses.[1] The first and main concourse has allocations to the majority of bus services and consists of 23 bays:

  • A stands 1 to 12
  • B stands 1 to 11

A second concourse, known as C Block, consists of a further 7 bays:

  • C stands 1 to 7
