Doha British School (DBS) opened in October 1997 and has grown steadily over recent years to offer an education to students from pre-school to Yr 13. Since 2008 the school has occupied new, purpose built premises that include facilities for a variety of specialist subjects in addition to well designed classrooms and sports facilities. The school has been designed to accommodate up to 1200 students. The school was originally called Doha Montessori & British School (DMBS) and changed to Doha British School (DBS) in 2011.
DBS offers a British style educational based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales with a modified Montessori programme for early years. The medium of instruction is English but cultural diversity is celebrated[clarification needed]. Currently the student body comprises 65 different nationalities.
The school currently has classes from Pre-School to Year 12 and will be taking year 13 students in September 2011. The Primary and Secondary classes follow a British style educational programme using the National Curriculum of England and Wales and International Baccalaureate for year 12 & 13, whilst the Pre-School classes follow a modified Montessori syllabus for early years. The School is a multi-national educational institution catering for children from over 65 countries around the world. The language of instruction is English.
The British Curriculum at Primary & Secondary Levels
The Curriculum that the School uses is an enhanced National Curriculum of England and Wales. This is recognised worldwide as a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.[citation needed]
All classes in Key Stage 1, 2& 3 are taken by teachers having British or equivalent teaching qualifications and are experienced in delivering the British National Curriculum in the UK or International Schools.[citation needed] The core subjects of English, Mathematics, and Science are complimented by the foundation subjects, Geography, History, Art & Design, French, DT, ICT, P.E. and Music. Arabic and Quranic studies are also available to native Arabic speakers.
Campus
In 2008 DBS moved into purpose-built facilities designed to accommodate up to 1200 students and providing classrooms and equipment for specialist subject teaching. Specific facilities include:

Information and Communication Technology suites. Primary and Secondary Libraries. Design and Technology rooms. musical instruments including keyboards, percussion and strings. four laboratories.
Curriculum
The curriculum in Pre-School is based on a modified Montessori method of teaching. Reception students follow the foundation stage of the National Curriculum of England and Wales. From Yr 1 to Yr10 we[who?] offer a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which is also based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. Mathematics, English, Science and ICT form the core subjects of the curriculum. The foundation subjects are History, Geography, Design Technology, Physical Education, Art and Design and Music. Arabic is available to our Arabic speaking students and French or Spanish are on offer to students of other nationalities. A key element of the curriculum throughout all stages is Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship education (PSHCE).
Core Subjects All areas of the National Curriculum are covered through an integrated programme consisting of speaking, listening .reading and writing.
Information and Communication technology The school has a computer room addition to computers in many of the classrooms. Using I.C.T guidelines as set by the National Curriculum, students can apply and develop their ICT skills and capability to support their learning in other curriculum overseas.
