Diwan-Ballubhai School

Diwan-Ballubhai School is a Secondary school in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Established in 1908 with 102 students on the roll it is one of the oldest schools in the city.

History

1908-1932

• 1908 School started at Maskati Market, approved by Government and University. Student strength 102.
• 1912 School shifted to Balentine Haveli, Three gates (Tran Darwaja)
• 1915 Trial of joint teaching. First girl student joined, Indira Sant.
• 1921 School joined with Gujarat Vidyapith.
• 1922 Student strength increased to 2200.
• 1926 School joined with Mumbai University and Government re-approved school.
• 1930 Trust started, and both principals went to jail for Non Co-Operative Movement hence the government cancelled the registration of the school
• 1932 Both principals again went to jail.

1933-1946

• 1933 Provident Fund started.
• 1934 Silver Jubilee celebration
• 1938 School building inaugurated by Shri Balgangadhar Kher
• 1939, 21 Jan Death of founder Shri Balvantrai Pramodrai Thakore.
• 1942, 26 Jan Inauguration of "Ballubhai Smarak Vyayam Mandir" by Shri Morarjibhai Desai.
• 1942, 8 June Ellisbridge school started.
• 1942, 9 Aug School closed up to June 1943 due to "Quit India Movement". Shri Jivanlal Diwan,Shri Thkorelal Shripatrai Thakore, Shri Surendra Balvantrai Thakore, Shri Ravjibhai Patel and Shri Krishnkant Shah went to jail.

1947-1958

• 1947, 9 Dec Mumbai Government's educational department registered school.
• 1952 1 Dec Death of Shri Jivanlal Hariprasad Diwan
• 1953, 21 Jan Foundation stone ceremony of Ellisbridge School Building.
• 1953, 17 Oct Inauguration ceremony of Ellisbridge School by Education Minister Shri Dinkarrai Desai.
• 1953, 17 Oct Old name of school "The Proprietary High School" replaced with "Diwan Ballubhai Madhyamic Shala"
• 1955, 14 June Inauguration of "Late Shri Jivanlal Hariprasad Diwan Udyog Mandir" by Dr.Shri Chandulal Desai.
• 1958 29 Dec 1957 to 7 Jan 1958 Golden Jubilee Celebration

1959-2006

• 1959, May Golden Jubilee special train tour to South India
• 1960, 16 Oct Inauguration of Technical School and "Suvarna Jayanti Mahotsav Aank" by Education Minister Shri Hitendrabhai Desai.
• 1978 Diamond Jubilee "Amrit mahostav" (75 years) ceremony of Shri Thakorbhai Shripatrai Takore.
• 1978 Inauguration of "Shiksan Bhavan"
• 1990, 23 Aug Death of Shri Thakorebhai Shripatrai Thakore.
• 1993, 6 Jan Diamond Jubilee (75 years) celebration
• 10 April 2004 First alumni meet at Rifle Club, Khanpur, Ahmedabad. Ajay Patel, Founder President.
• 27 June 2004 Inauguration of "Guru Daxina Bhavan" (Pre-Primary school, Kankaria new building).
• 2006, June English Medium started at Kankaria School.

2007-date

• 2007, 6 Jan Centenary year opening ceremonya
• 2007, 30 Dec Learning Resource Center(LRC) opening ceremony.
• 2008, 4-5-6 Jan Centenary year closing ceremony.
