The Anglican Diocese of Yukon is a diocese of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and Yukon of the Anglican Church of Canada. It comprises 15 congregations serving 24 communities in the Yukon and parts of northern British Columbia.[1]

The Diocese was formed in 1890 when the Diocese of Mackenzie River was divided. Originally the Diocese of Selkirk, the name of the diocese was changed to Yukon in 1907.

The diocesan bishop since 1995 has been the Rt. Rev. Terrence Buckle, who was also Metropolitan of the Province of British Columbia and Yukon from 2005-2009. In November 2007 Buckle announced his intention to retire at the end of 2008[2] but following an inconclusive election synod postponed his retirement plans. He will now retire in August 2010.

On May 15, 2010, the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Robertson, since 1999 suffragan bishop in the western region of the Diocese of the Arctic, was elected 11th bishop of Yukon. He will be installed at Christ Church Cathedral in Whitehorse on September 18, 2010.[3]

Many people in the diocese, and in the wider Church, were disappointed at the January 2009 announcement that Bishop Ronald Ferris, 9th bishop of Yukon (who subsequently served as Bishop of Algoma from 1995-2008) had, following his retirement, resigned from the Anglican Church of Canada to become a leader of the Anglican Network in Canada, a group of breakaway parishes opposed to such issues as the blessing of same-sex unions, that has placed itself under the jurisdiction of the primate of the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone, Archbishop Gregory Venables.[4]
