Dick Findlay

Dick Findlay of Vancouver is one of the few boxers from British Columbia to earn a spot on a Canadian Olympic Boxing team[1]

Early career

In 1966 and 1967, Findlay had the distinction of being the first boxer to earn back-to-back "Golden Boy" awards in the BC Golden Gloves.[2] Findlay was also a boxer in the 1967 International Diamond Belt Centennial Boxing Championship hosted by the Rajah and Burnaby Shrine Clubs held on March 31 - April 1 at the PNE's Agrodome in Vancouver.[3]

Findlay achieved three BC Golden Boy awards in a row before 1968, but settled for Golden Boy runner-up award when Portland boxer RAY LAMPKIN of the Knott Street Boxing Club was named 1968 BC Golden Boy.[4]

In the finals of the 1968 BC Golden Gloves, Findlay of the East Vancouver Optimists earned a decision over Nicky McDonald of the Vancouver Firefighters Boxing Club and was named the BC Golden Boy Runner-up[5]

1967 Pan-American Games

In 1967, Findlay was a member of the Canadian Pan American Games Boxing Team.[6]

Team Canada boxers were Dick Findlay, Donato Paduano, Frank Scott, Freddy Fuller, Gerald Ratte, Marijan Koler, Walter Henry, and Wayne Boyce.

1968 Canadian Olympic Boxing Team

Richard(Dick) Findlay was one of the few 1968 Canadian Olympic boxers. Team members were Walter Henry and Donato Paduano.[7]

British Columbia Amateur Boxing Hall Of Fame

In September 2010, Dick Findlay was named as one of 15 first ever inductees into the British Columbia Amateur Boxing Hall Of Fame. The select fifteen are: Chris Ius, Dale Walters, Dave Brown,Dick Findlay, Eddie Haddad, Elio Ius, Frank Scott, Fred Desrosiers, Fred Fuller, Freddy Fuller, Harold Mann, Jimmy Walters, Manny Sobral, Pat O'Reilly, and Rick Brough. (2010 Administrators - brian zelley, daniel mcgarvie, ray beaulieu, scott galloway, steve wood and steven kodiak.)
